32-yr-old woman set ablaze by in-laws in Nizamuddin

nA 32 year old woman was allegedly set ablaze on Sunday by her in-laws in south east Delhi’s Nizamuddin area on Friday.

The victim has been identified as Yasmeen. According to police, the victim is 80 per cent burnt and has been admitted to Safdarjung Hospital. The incident happened on August 16 and she is unable to give a statement due to her burn injuries.

According to the information, on August 16 at around 6:30 pm when the victim's minor daughter reached back home after their tuition and  saw their mother was burning. The minor daughter poured buckets of water to douse off the fire and called the police following which she was rushed to the Safderjung hospital where she is undergoing treatment.

It is suspected that victim's inlaws had set her ablaze after pouring kerosene oil on her. The victim had 80 percent deep thermal burns.The victim's husband Amir Alvi had passed away five years ago. She has three minor daughters.

"On the complaint of family, police has registered case under 307 IPC and other relevant sections. Statement of accused persons are being recorded," said a senior police official. Further investigation is underway.
