The office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), has lodged a total of 39 First Information Reports (FIRs) and Daily Dairy (DD) entries against various political parties including Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) since March 10 for violating the model code of conduct ahead the Lok Sabha Elections 2019.

Till now a total of four FIRs have been registered against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), whereas three cases have been lodged against the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP). The CEO, Delhi Ranbir Singh said that large number of FIRs were against defacement of public property on Friday.

The office of Delhi CEO said more than 1.94 lakh posters, banners and hoardings have been removed since the model code of conduct came into force.

Police have registered 106 FIRs and arrested 133 people under the Arms Act, while 384 people have been arrested under the Excise Act. Police have also “seized 136 unlicensed weapons and 2,146 cartridges, explosives and bombs”, said the office of Delhi CEO.

The Lok Sabha elections will begin on April 11 and continue till May 19 across seven phases. Delhi will vote on May 12.

Around two lakh people have been added to the electoral roll in Delhi in the last two months, taking the total number of eligible voters to 1.39 crore at present. The Lok Sabha elections will start from April 11 and will be held in seven phases, followed by counting of votes on May 23. The elections in Delhi will be held on May 12.

The office of the CEO said that about 90,000 voter applications are currently under process and the commission has asked the first-time voters to apply as soon as possible to get their names enrolled in the electoral list. “The last date for filing nominations for Lok Sabha polls in the Delhi is April 23. Thus, the notifications will be issued on April 16 and the scrutiny will place on April 24 and last date for withdrawal of nomination would be April 26,” said the official.

Further, an increase of nearly two lakh voters has been witnessed from the corresponding figure on January 18 this year. “Till January 18, the total number of voters in the electoral roll of Delhi was 1,36,95,291. Thus, there is an increase of about two lakh voters since then,” said Singh.
