In a shocking case, 40 patients undergoing dialysis at the dialysis centre located at the Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Coronation hospital have been found positive for hepatitis C.
Alarmed by the case the administration of the Coronation hospital ordered an inquiry. The preliminary results of the inquiry have put the findings of the private lab which conducted the tests on the patients under cloud. The dialysis centre of the hospital is being operated by a private firm on Public Private Participation (PPP) mode. Recently on detection of large number of cases of Hepatitis C, the chief medical superintendent (CMS) of the Coronation hospital, Dr B C Ramola set up an inquiry headed by the senior physician of the hospital, Dr N S Bisht. The team sent samples two patients found positive by the doctors of the dialysis centre to the All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) Rishikesh. The report of the AIIMS revealed that the patients were not suffering from Hepatitis as shown by the centre.
It is learnt that the dialysis centre had got the samples of the patients examined from a private lab which reported large number of positive cases. The CMS of Coronation hospital, Dr Ramola said that it was found that the doctors of the dialysis unit were prescribing anti viral medicines of some company and it appears that the reports were fabricated to give positive hepatitis C findings to benefit drug manufacturing company.
