42-yr-old woman gunned down; brother hurt

Wednesday, 21 August 2019 | Pioneer News Service | Lucknow

Old enmity led to sensational attack on a family in Baghpat where a 42-year-old woman was killed while her brother critically injured. Local police claimed to have launched a manhunt for the assailants.

Reports said Pradeep Aka Guddu, who resided in Hilwadi hamlet of Baghpat, was having some old dispute with his cousin Kala. According to reports, on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, his elder sister Rekha, wife of Satpal, and younger daughter Anju married to Pappu (hailing from Shamli) visited his house and stayed back.

On Monday evening, Guddu, along with both sisters and their husbands, went to their field to see the crop. When they were having dinner, they were suddenly attacked by some villagers with whom they had an old enmity.  The villagers opened a burst of fire in which both Rekha and Pappu sustained grievous injuries.

Others somehow rushed to take shelter in a nearby house to save their lives. When the firing stopped, they reached the spot and with the help of villagers, both the injured were shifted to hospital where Rekha was pronounced dead upon arrival while the condition of Pappu was said to be critical.

Local police rushed to the spot and claimed that Pappu’s cousin Kala led the attack along with four of his kin and they had launched a manhunt for them after registering a case in this regard.

Meanwhile, in a separate case in Ferozabad, a teenage couple allegedly committed suicide after their family members opposed their affair. Reports said Lalita aka Lata, a 19-year-old girl hailing from Alampur Kaleta Nagla hamlet of Basai Mohamedpur in Ferozabad, was in love with Anil Kumar Lodhi, a resident of the same village. When the family members of Lata learnt of the affair, they opposed it and refused to let her step out.

Reports further said that Anil was working in a sweet shop in New Delhi and on last Friday morning,  Lata told her family members that she was going to see a ‘prabhat pheri’ in the village.

However, she did not return and went missing. She reportedly eloped with her boyfriend. According to her family members, Lata called them and told them that she was in New Delhi along with Anil and they had got married.

However, on Tuesday morning, local villagers saw two bodies hanging from a tree outside the village. They informed the police, who with the help of documents recovered from the pocket, identified the victims as Anil and Lata. The cops informed their family members who also ascertained their identities. The police sent the bodies for the post-mortem and were making further investigations.
