In a bid to expedite the trial in rising number of cases of crimes against women and girls, the State Government has decided to set up 45 fast-track courts.
“The State Government will set up 45 Fast Track Courts (FTCs) on a war footing,” said Law Minister Pratap Jena on Tuesday.
Jena said that out of the total 45 FTCs, 21 courts would exclusively deal with rape cases and other atrocities against women. “The State has 24 designated Protection of Children against Sexual Offences (POSCO) Courts. All required efforts are being undertaken to make them functional at the earliest,” Jena added. A significant mention here is POCSO courts were set up after the Supreme Court directed the Union Government to set up special courts in those districts, where more than 100 cases of sexual offences against children were pending. These special courts would exclusively hear cases of sexual offences against children registered under the POCSO Act for disposal in a time-bound manner.
