With the upcoming festival season, Dehradun district administration has received about 450 applications for temporary licence to sell fire crackers. The City Magistrate, Chander Singh Martoliya, said that the applications are under process. They are waiting for the police reports to start issuing licences. Non-Objection Certificates (NOCs) from district are required for that.
According to the district administration, the areas where fire fighting vehicles will not be able to go during the time of emergency will be banned from selling fire crackers. The areas included Dhamawala, few parts of Paltan Bazaar, Moti Bazaar and Ghosi Gali.
Dehradun Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Arun Mohan Joshi said, “There is a set performa on the basis of which we send our reports. There should be proper space in the shop and it is mandatory for the shops to keep fire fighting equipments. About 300 NOCs have been issued from fire department, but the reports from police stations are yet to come.”
He added, “Anyone disobeying the law and the rules will be booked under appropriate sections and strict legal actions will be taken against them. Fire crackers are only to be sold at designated areas.”
It is pertinent to mention here that fire department is also going to release and advisory to administration as well as general public.
