At least five policemen, including officer in-charge of a police station , were injured when a mob of about 60 to 70 peoples attacked Nagar Untari police station during immersion of Goddesses Durga statue on Wednesday night. Police arrested 21 people, including a JAP jwan and a CRPF personnel in the connection.
The incident happened at around 10.30 pm on Wednesday night when police took into custody one youth after his quarrel with a wine shop owner.
Giving details about the incident, Banshidhar Nagar SDPO Neeraj Kumar said, “At a liquor shop situated at Chechariya village, some youths were quarreling with the shopkeeper in drunken condition. Police were on patrolling duty reached there to solve the matter and took a youth in custody."
“During interrogation, he stated his name Sonu Kumar a JAP jwan presently posted as house guard of Water Resources Minister Ramchandra Sahis in Ranchi.
To protest the custody of JAP jawan around 60 to 70 peoples who were participating in goddesses Durga idol immersion procession entered the police station and started forcing him to leave the Sonu. Thana in-charge Pankaj Tiwari tried to convince the people, but due to the intoxication, they started creating nuisance and started stone pelting on police men,” Kumar added.
"Five police personnel including the officer in-charge , Munshi Ashirwad Mahato, Havildar Salman Barla, jawan Gautham Krishna and jwan Nagendra Ravidas were injured," the SDPO informed.
The situation is now under control and adequate forces have been deployed to avert any flare up," said the SDPO.
On the complain of thana in-charge a case has been registered against the arrested people and 70 unknown for attacking on the police station and obstructing Government work under sections of 147, 148, 149, 342, 332, 323, 333, 337, 338, 307 and 353 IPC.
Police arrested 21 people including Pradeep Gupta, Pintu Kumar, Neeraj Kumar, Utsav Kumar, Mithilesh Kumar Mehta, Ajay Kumar, Shravan Kumar, Vikram Goswami, Chandan Kumar, Ali Hussain Ansari, Sonu Kumar, Gulab Mehta, W Kumar, Shambhu Ram, Rohit Pratap Dev , Kishan Kumar, Dhananjay Kumar, Mikesh Kumar, Ash Kumar etc.
