A five-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a married man in Buguda of Ganjam district. Though the incident took place on April 11, the matter came to light after the family members of victim lodged a complaint with police on Sunday.
As per the complaint, the accused took the minor girl, a Class-I student, to his house and raped her.
Following the incident, locals tried to settle the matter, but as no action was taken against the accused, the family members of the girl lodged an FIR at the Buguda police station.
Later, police sent the minor girl to the Buguda Community Health Centre (CHC) for medical examination after receiving the complaint. Police said efforts are on to nab the accused, who is absconding.
“The family members of the girl and villagers tried to settle the matter. A police complaint was registered only after the parties failed to reach any consensus. We have registered a case and started investigation into the matter,” informed Buguda PS IIC SS Mandhata.
