57% pass in science, 70.4% in commerce

The result for intermediate Science and Commerce was declared by the Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC) on Tuesday evening.  An improvement in the result was recorded as compared to 2018 and 2017 with the total pass percentage in science stream being 57 per cent and that in commerce being 70.44 per cent.

In 2018, the pass percentage in science was 48.34 per cent while that in commerce was 67.49 per cent. In 2017 the pass percentage in science was 52.36 per cent and that in commerce was 60.09 percent.

A total of 94,326 candidates registered for examination in science stream of which 93,298 appeared and 53,186 students passed the examination. Of these, 20,447 passed with first division, 30,874 with second division, 1841 with third division and 24 passed provisionally.

In commerce, 35,052 students registered of which 34,686 appeared in the examination and 24,436 passed. A total of 7115 passed with first division marks, 15,428 got second division marks, 1886 got third division and 7 passed provisionally.

Performance of girls in both science as well as commerce stream was better than that of boys. Of the 65,419 boys who appeared in the science examination 55.01 percent passed while 61.68 percent of 27,879 girls passed the examination. Similarly in commerce, of the total 19,442 boys who appeared in the examination 12,382 passed thus making the pass percentage of boys 63.68 percent. However, 79.07 percent girls passed in commerce stream as out of the 15,244 girls who appeared, 12,054 cleared the examination.

The best performing district in science stream was Palamu with 72.37 percent students passing the examination, followed by Hazaribag having a pass percentage of 69.63 per cent and Garhwa with a pass percentage of 64.75 percent.

The worst performing districts were Khunti and Jamtara with 34.89 per cent and 39.14 percent students passing the examination in these districts, respectively.

The pass percentage in science stream in Ranchi was 59.58 percent which is more than previous year when the pass percentage was 53.61 percent.

In commerce, the best performing district turned out to be Simdega with 89.31 percent students passing the examination. Khunti, which is the worst performing district in science stream bagged the second place in commerce stream with a pass percentage of 80.48 percent. The third best performing district was Koderma with 79.09 percent.

The worst performer in commerce stream was Sahebganj with only 39.56 percent students of the district passing the examination. Palamu, the best performer in science stream turned out to be the second worst performer in commerce with only 49.11 percent commerce students passing the examination.

Pass percentage of commerce stream in the State capital was 73.21 percent.

Officials at JAC informed that the results for Intermediate Arts and class 10 will also be declared soon.
