With the arrest of two men, the Delhi Police on Friday busted an inter-state drug cartel in the national Capital. Police have also recovered 800 kilogram (kg) of cannabis (ganja), largest haul seized this year, worth Rs 2.4 crore from the possession of the duo.
The accused have been identified as Mohammad Kajim (26), who was living at Delhi’s Nangloi area and Dinesh Kumar (34) a resident of Uttar Pradesh’s Mirzapur.
According to Rajiv Ranjan, Additional Commissioner of Police, Crime Branch, on July 11, about 6.45 am, specific inputs were received that Kajim and driver Dinesh, would be bringing ganja to Delhi on a Nagaland number truck.
“Acting on the inputs a trap was laid and duo was apprehended from Delhi’s Bawana area. During checking of the truck around 800 kg of cannabis was recovered and a case under section 20/25/29 of NDPS Act was registered in Crime Branch police station,” said the Additional CP.
“During interrogation, the accused Kajim disclosed that around two years ago he came in contact with Salam who is a drug trafficker. Salam supplies Ganja to several drug peddlers in Delhi and NCR area. Salam used to procure ganja from Andhra Pradesh on trucks. Initially, Kajim would do odd jobs for him,” said the Additional CP.
“However, since March 2019, Salam started sending Kajim to fetch Ganja from Andhra Pradesh. Kajim would reach Visakhpatnam by train. Salam would also reach Visakhapatnam by air. Salam would meet one Anand Pandey in Visakhapatnam who used to arrange ganja, the truck and the driver,” said the Additional CP.
“After Salam paid Anand, it was Kajim’s job to travel back to Delhi on the truck loaded with Ganja. Meanwhile, Dinesh told police that he met Anand two months ago and Anand used to call him to get in touch with Anwar Visakhapatnam who used to get truck loaded with ganja,” said the Additional CP.
“Dinesh further revealed that an associate of Anwar used to take him and empty truck to forest area in Visakhapatnam where ganja was loaded on to the truck in the jungle by local people. After loading ganja, Dinesh would come out and
would drive back to UP, Rajasthan or Delhi, as directed by Anand Pandey,” said the Additional CP.
“Both Dinesh and Kajim were produced in Court today and have been taken on 10 days police remand. Efforts are being made to gather more information about Salam in Nangloi, Anand Pandey in UP’s Mirzapur and Anwar in Visakhapatnam and to arrest them at the earliest,” said the Additional CP.
