84 cases identified by Hry under ‘Chinhit Apradh'

In Haryana, a total of 84 cases have so far been selected under ‘Chinhit Apradh’ by the state level committee since the scheme started in October 2018 on the basis of recommendations of district level committees.

The scheme was started to identify serious and sensational crimes, which adversely impact the psyche of the masses, to ensure speedy and proper trial to secure conviction of the accused persons through an institutional mechanism. 

The state level committee reviewed the progress made in trial of cases selected under ‘Chinhit Apradh’ and identified the bottlenecks in prosecution and take corrective measures. The cases selected under ‘Chinhit Apradh’ are being followed up at district level to ensure speedy and proper trial to secure conviction of the accused persons, said Additional Chief Secretary, Home, SS Prasad on Wednesday.

Prasad chaired the 5th meeting of the state level committee to review the progress of various cases under ‘Chinhit Apradh’ scheme.

During the meeting, it was also apprised that out of 84 selected cases, 20 cases has been decided by the Courts. Conviction rates for these cases comes out to be 55 per cent  which is far ahead of the conviction rate of 29.04 per cent for cases decided by courts in calendar year 2018.

The meeting was also attended by Director General of Police, Manoj Yadava, Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Navdeep Singh Virk, Additional Legal Remembrancer, ADGP CID Anil Kumar Rao, Director Prosecution and other officers of CID and Forensic Science Laboratory, Madhuban.
