A ‘Black Day’: Akhilesh ... SP chief sits on dharna

Sunday, 08 December 2019 | PNS | Lucknow

Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party government led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for failing to save the life of a “daughter”.

“Before India could emerge from the trauma of Hyderabad’s brutal rape-and-murder, the rape victim of Unnao has also died,” he said.

Sitting on a dharna outside Vidhan Bhawan along with SP state chief Naresh Uttam Patel, party spokesman Rajendra Chaudhary and some legislators, Akhilesh Yadav called it a ‘Black Day’ and slammed the Yogi government over deteriorating law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh.

“This is an extremely condemnable incident. This is a Black Day. It is not the first such incident during this BJP regime. The chief minister had said in Assembly that ‘apradhiyon ko thok diya jayega’. But they could not save the life of a daughter and her last words were that she wanted live. Despite all efforts, doctors could not save her,” the former chief minister told reporters.

“Till the day, the chief minister, home secretary and DGP are not sacked, justice will not be done. Tomorrow, we will organise a ‘shokh sabha’ (condolence meet) in all districts of the state over the Unnao rape case,” the SP chief added.

Akhilesh also observed a two-minute silence for the departed rape victim and stated that soon he would be visiting her family in Unnao along with senior SP leaders.

A delegation of SP leaders also visited the family of the rape victim in Unnao and handed over Rs 1 lakh as relief.

The autopsy of the 23-year-old victim, who was torched by rape accused in Unnao on Thursday, was conducted on Saturday morning.

The victim had suffered 90 per cent burns and died of cardiac arrest at Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi at 11:40 pm on Friday, the same day when the police shot dead four men accused of brutal gang-rape and murder of a young veterinarian in Hyderabad.

The seriously burnt rape victim was first taken to Lucknow for treatment and then flown to Delhi in an air ambulance on Thursday evening. But she lost her battle for life late on Friday evening.
