Irked by the delay in declaring the first year results of the exams held in May this year, the students of the Jiwaji University, under the leadership of ABVP resorted to new protests which turned violent towards the evening.

Hundreds of students under the banner of ABVP gathered outside the university building to agitate over the delay in declaring results. The agitated students locked the staff of the Nagpur based software company, Micro Pro Company for several hours. According to sources six employees, including a lady employee of the company were locked up in their office room for close to 4 hours. One of the protesters threw some black substance on the name plates of the Dy Registrar, IK Mansoori and Director, College Development Council Professor DD Agarwal. The CCTV footage showed a youth with his face covered with cloth blackening the names plates. When contacted, the leaders of ABVP said that the protester is not a member of the youth wing. A platoon of police from the University Police Station was mute spectators to the whole incident.

Around 5 in the evening the Acting Vice Chancellor Prof AK Srivastava and Registrar Mansoori reached the spot and assured the agitating students that all the results will be declared by 3 o’clock on Monday. They also assured the students that action will be taken against the Nagpur based company for not updating the software on time.

Speaking to the media persons, Dr RKS Sengar, Controller of Examinations, Jiwaji University said that all the results will be declared by Monday. He added that appropriate action will be taken against the company as soon as the Vice Chancellor returns from leave.
