ABVP-police clash in city; 100 held

Hundreds of activists of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) on Saturday held a demonstration at Mahatma Gandhi Marg here to protest against the rising crimes like gangrape and murder of girls and women in the State and the country.

The agitators holding various banners and placards came in a procession from the Master Canteen Square to Lower PMG here demanding security and dignity for women.

They also demanded stringent punishment against the accused involved in crimes against women.

Then, the protestors tried to break the police cordon and march towards the Lokseva Bhavan which led to a clash with the police.  More than a hundred ABVP activists were detained by police for violating the prohibitory order.
