ABVP protests against VBU VC

Wednesday, 14 August 2019 | PNS | Ranchi

Members of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) handed over a letter to the Governor of Jharkhand cum Chancellor of State run universities Draupadi Murmu with a request to dismiss the present Vice Chancellor (VC) Dr Ramesh Sharan who has been accused of causing chaos at the university.

The letter was signed by Professor Nayugadi, State President ABVP, Dr Pankaj Kumar, Dipesh Kumar, Sanjay Mehta Amit Choubey and others.

The letter stated that since Sharan has been appointed as the VC, the university has become a stronghold of educational chaos, organised corruption and Naxalite ideas.

It also been stated that since the VC had postponed the convocation ceremony of VBU in the name of abolishing of Article 370, there seems to be a conspiracy and the ceremony could have been concluded in a peaceful manner without causing any trouble to the students coming from far off places.

As per the directives of the Ministry of Human Resource Development and the Governor, the 8th convocation ceremony of the university was to be held in Indian attire.

The VC had disregarded these instructions and certificates were awarded to students adorning the black robe.

The ceremony was only to award degrees to students of 2018, but the VC had also awarded degrees to students of 2015, 2016 and 2017.

With 10,000 students present, the letter also raises questions on why was the convocation ceremony called off in between and how come the date printed on the degrees awarded is wrong.

It also states that instead of 6633 students, why only 243 students were given the degree certificates.
