The All India Progressive Women’s Association (AIPWA) held a meeting here discussing the preparations for its national meeting at Udyapur, Rajasthan in February and various issues concerning women, including rising violence, exploitation and population control of the poor and minority community families through implementation of the Uniform Civil Code.
The AIPWA alleged that the BJP and RSS have no respect for the women’s rights and equality.
They are looking down upon the Muslims and demanded a progressive law for women as per the recommendation of a committee in 2015 to the Central Government.
The forum also objected to the NRC and expressed solidarity with the Kashmir women, who are fightimng for their rights. It alleged that the Modi Government thinks children of the poor families as a burden on the country and fails to provide them minimum amenities of life. “The country has enough wealth for providing food, shelter, education, health etc to the poor and let the Government stop waiving loans to the corporates,” said the speakers.
AIPWA president Rati Rao criticised the population policy of the Centre. Among others, AIPWA national secretary Mina Tiwari and Mandakini Sethi and Saraswati Swain from State unit were present.
