A day after joining the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), former Congress Jharkhand president and IPS officer Ajoy Kumar was appointed its national spokesperson on Friday.
Welcoming Dr Kumar, party’s national convenor Arvind Kejriwal said that the entry of Dr Kumar into the AAP will strengthen the struggle for a corruption free and prosperous India. Kumar joined the AAP on Thursday. He was born in Mangalore (Karnataka) and completed schooling from Hyderabad. He earned an MBBS degree from Jawaharlal Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) Puducherry in 1985. He became an Indian Police Service (IPS) in 1986.
"The Aam Aadmi Party has appointed @drajoykumar as National Spokesperson. Welcome aboard brother," tweeted AAP Delhi Spokesperson Saurabh Bharadwaj. Dr Kumar is known for his exemplary work as SP Patna and SP Jamshedpur between 1986 and 1996, particularly for his fight against Mafia Raj in Bihar and Jharkhand.
He was elected to the 15th Lok Sabha from the Jamshedpur Lok Sabha constituency in a by-election in 2011 on a ticket of Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Prajatantrik) Party. Later he joined the Congress party in 2014.
Kumar on Thursday after joining the AAP had said that only the AAP is truly a party of the 'aam aadmi' where anyone can join and work towards development.
"The changes brought by the Delhi Government in the fields of education and health are revolutionary. I am so happy to see the work done for 24x7 water and power by the AAP-led Delhi Government," he said, adding the AAP is doing positive politics and people can join it without any political background to serve the country.
He resigned as Jharkhand Congress chief last month, accusing some colleagues of promoting their own interests over the party and indulging in corrupt practices.
