Akhilesh condemns killing of a youth in ‘fake encounter

Tuesday, 08 October 2019 | PNS | Lucknow

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav has condemned the killing of a youth, Pushpendra Yadav, is an alleged fake encounter by the police in Jhansi on Sunday.

Akhilesh Yadav will go to Jhansi on October 9 and meet the bereaved family of the youth.

The Jhansi police, however, claimed that Pushpendra Yadav was involved in illegal mining and he had opened fire on the inspector of Moth police station and was killed when the police personnel opened fire in self defence.

Akhilesh Yadav said the killing of an innocent youth by the inspector of Moth police station was a very sad incident.

He alleged that Pushpendra Yadav was shot from close range and later he was shown to have been killed 40 km away in an encounter. The SP chief said Pushpendra Yadav had no criminal record.

Akhilesh Yadav said a spate of recent incidents of police atrocities suggested that law and order had collapsed in the state and the Bharatiya Janata Party, to hide its own failure, was blaming the opposition parties. He said such a situation was a matter of deep concern in a democratic polity.

The SP chief alleged that criminals and mafia had a free run in the state while the police were claiming good work by killing innocent people in fake encounters.

He said the Human Rights Commission had issued notices to the UP government over several such incidents of fake encounters but the government was not giving information.

Akhilesh Yadav said in Lalitpur, a youth committed suicide as he was unable to bear the police atrocities. He said a stunning incident occurred in Fatehpur where a sub-inspector raped a woman police constable at gun point. “How can the common man and women feel safe in UP when even a woman police constable is not safe in the state?” the SP chief asked.
