Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday hinted at fighting the Lok Sabha election from Azamgarh, the seat presently held by his father Mulayam Singh Yadav.
He said that he may contest the Lok Sabha election from Azamgarh seat in Uttar Pradesh.
Akhilesh Yadav, who appeared in a programme of a TV channel, was asked about his plans to contest the crucial polls. He said, “If the people of Azamgarh will ask for it, I will contest the election.”
Before Akhilesh’s statement, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had said that the Bharatiya Janata Party would win the Azamgarh and Amethi parliamentary seats this time.
Yogi Adityanath had expressed confidence that the BJP would win more than 74 seats in UP and would also wrest the Kairana, Amethi and Azamgarh seats.
Akhilesh also said that he was not in race for prime ministership and rather his role would be limited to making of the prime minister. The SP chief, however, said he was not a king maker and would just extend his support to the process.
He also asserted that the country would get a new prime minister after the Lok Sabha election and the prime minister would be from Uttar Pradesh.
Without revealing name, Akhilesh said that he had decided whom to support for the prime ministership.
The SP chief hailed Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s entry into politics and said it would help in “wiping off” the BJP in the state.
However, likening Congress with BJP, Akhilesh said that both parties ware alike when it came to misuse of the CBI.
The SP chief said that the people now wanted to get rid of the BJP government and the Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party alliance offered the best alternative. He added that he would keep supporting Mayawati in future also.
