The state government was exploring alternative options to razing of the under- construction skywalk in Raipur, public works department minister Tamradhwaj Sahu said in a written reply on third day of the monsoon session of the assembly.

JCC (J) member Dr Renu Jogi had sought details from the PWD minister about the length of the skywalk,  from where to where it would be  constructed, status of the construction, total estimated budget for it and the amount spent on it.

She also wanted to know about the outcome of its utility survey and whether the government was considering its demolition or exploring other alternatives if it was deemed unfit for use.

Sahu in the reply stated that the total length of the under construction skywalk is 1470 metres. From Shastri chowk to Multilevle parking it is 616 metres, towards Dr B R Ambedkar Hospital it is 590 metres and from Shastri chowk to Rotary department it is 266 metres, which is to be constructed.

Around 50 percent of the works had been completed. The estimated budget       sanctioned for it is Rs 77.10 crore out of which Rs 36.44 crore has been spent, the House was informed.

Minister further stated that in case the under        construction skywalk was rendered useless then the government would also examine alternative options to demolition.
