BJD supremo and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday appointed and former Mayor of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Ananta Narayan Jena as a State general secretary of the BJD.
Besides, Jena was also given an additional charge of party observer for the Bhubaneswar organisational district and the Patna Assembly constituency in Keonjhar district.
Earlier on March 7, the Chief Minister had appointed Jena as the Chairman of Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA).
Sources said Jena was assigned additional responsibilities in the party to appease him ahead of the elections as he was interested to contest polls from the Bhubaneswar Central Assembly constituency.
Meanwhile, the BJD president has cancelled the order of suspension of former Paradip Municipality Chairman Govinda Tarai, said BJD State secretary Bijay Nayak.
