Ansari questions motive of Sena MPs’ visit

Monday, 17 June 2019 | PNS | Lucknow

Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray’s visit to Ayodhya along with the MPs of his party sparked a controversy with Iqbal Ansari, one of the plaintiffs in the Ram Janmabhoomi title suit, questioning the motive for their visit.

“When the Supreme Court is hearing the matter then everyone should have some patience. Let the court decide on the issue and they should then give their opinion,” he told reporters in Ayodhya on Sunday.

Ansari was reacting to the statement of Uddhav Thackeray that an ordinance should be brought for construction of Ram temple. The Shiv Sena chief even said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had the courage to resolve the Ran temple issue and brining an ordinance could be the right way out and the Shiv Sena would support BJP in this.

Talking to reporters, Ansari said: “We welcome pilgrims in Ayodhya for worshipping in the temples but coming here with 18 MPs is not a religious visit but a pursuance of some political agenda.”

The Shiv Sena chief along with his party’s 18 newly-elected Lok Sabha members offered prayers at the Ram Lalla temple here on the eve of the first session of the new Lok Sabha on Monday.

Maharashtra will be going to polls later this year and the visit is being seen as an attempt by the Shiv Sena to put pressure on ally Bharatiya Janata Party on the Ram temple issue. But Sena has maintained that Thackeray’s visit should not be seen in this light.

The title suit over the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid site is being heard by the Supreme Court.
