Several passengers travelling in a Duronto Express train from Jammu to New Delhi were allegedly robbed at knifepoint of their cash, mobile phones, jewellery and other items on Thursday at around 3.30 am. The train had stopped at outer signal of Samaypur Badli Railway Station for ten minutes, police said.
A passenger Aswani Thakur, traveling in the train narrated the incident on an online portal and wrote that some seven to ten miscreants entered coaches B-3 and B-7 of Duronto Express (12266), carrying sharp edged knives with them and looted passengers of cash and kind.
The robbers then jumped off the train.
“The irony is that neither staff nor security personnel were available at the time of the mishappening. Attendant told us that there are no security personnel available in the train,” he added.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Railways) Dinesh Kumar Gupta stated that the incident was reported at around 4.40 am.
Three-four persons entered coach B-3 of Duronto Express train traveling from Jammu to New Delhi Railway Station and robbed the passengers of cash, jewelry, mobile phones and other articles, he said.
“The train had stopped for ten minutes from 3:25 am to 3:35 am at outer signal of Samaypur Badli Railway Station,” said the DCP.
The train started from Jammu at 7.30 pm on Wednesday and was heading towards New Delhi Railway Station, when they stopped at outer Badli Railway Station in Delhi.
A case under sections 392 (robbery) and 34 (act by several persons) have been registered on the basis of the complaint, the DCP said, adding that Railway Police Force has been deputed to patrol the running trains.”Efforts are being undertaken to identify and catch the culprits,” he said.
