The ashes of country’s first woman director general of police, Kanchan Chaudhary Bhattacharya, were immersed in Ganga on Monday amidst Vedic rituals. Her daughters Kanika and Kaveri, along with other family members, performed the rituals here. The family priest Shailesh Mohan performed the rituals.
A tearful adieu was given to the bold and gracious woman officer by all present on the occasion.
The ashes of the former DGP were brought by her son in-law, husband, daughters and sister Kavita to Haridwar in the morning. DG, Law and Order, Ashok Kumar and many other police personnel were present at Har Ki Paidi during the ritual.
Kanchan Chaudhary Bhattacharya was and Indian Police Service officer of the 1973 batch and had died on August 26 due to illness at the age of 72.
Her life was shot in the form of documentary by her sister Kavita Chaudhary in television serial Udaan. She had created history when she was made first woman DGP of Uttarakhand in 2004.
