Assembly pays homage to Pulwama martyrs

The Budget Session of Uttarakhand Assembly on Friday was adjourned till Monday after the members paid homage to the CRPF personnel martyred in the Pulwama terror attack. The Budget which was to be tabled in the Assembly on the day would now be presented on Monday.

Paying emotional tributes to those who have been slain in the biggest terrorist attack of the recent time, the members also pledged to donate their one month’s salary for the families of the deceased. The members observed a silence of two minutes as a mark of respect for the martyred soldiers.

In his address, the Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat said that whenever any crisis befalls the nation, the nation becomes united. Expressing his condolences to the families of the martyrs, the CM said that the nation is proud of its brave soldiers. He  further said that the Indian armed forces are very strong and are capable of giving a befitting reply to the enemy at any point of time.

CM added that the youths of the country are brave, courageous and brimming with love for the nation. Rawat said that the State Government stands firmly with the families of the martyred soldiers and it has taken a policy decision to provide Government jobs to one of the family members of the martyrs. He added that a majestic war memorial (Shaurya Sthal) would be built in the memory of the martyrs.

The Speaker Prem Chand Agarwal said that the whole country is with the grief-stricken families of the martyrs. He further said that apart from taking firm punitive action against the perpetrators of the ghastly Act, steps should be taken to bring back the misguided youths of Kashmir to the mainstream. They should be prevailed over to take  books, pens and tools in their hands instead of taking up guns, he said.

Earlier taking part in the discussion, the members of the Assembly paid tributes to the martyrs.

Cutting across the party lines, they demanded the armed forces of the country be given a free hand to deal with the terrorists and their supporters both within the country and outside.

BJP MLA from Roorkee Pradip Batra declared that he would donate his salary of six months to the families of the martyrs.

Similarly, Jhabreda MLA Deshraj Karanwal announced that he along with some of his companions would go to the Wagah border in Punjab to stage demonstration against Pakistan.

Vikasnagar MLA Munna Singh Chauhan said that the fact of a local youth having triggered the explosion which killed CRPF personnel has revealed the local support behind the terrorists.

He demanded the sleeper cells of the terror outfits in the country be destroyed. BJP MLA, Sanjay Gupta, said that a war should be declared against Pakistan.

Those who paid condolences to the martyrs included  the Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prakash Pant, leader of the opposition Indira Hridayesh, tourism and culture minister Satpal Maharaj, Agriculture Minister Subodh Uniyal, deputy leader of the opposition Karan Mahra, Govind Singh Kunjwal and Harbans Kapur.
