Atishi terms BJP anti-women after its leader slaps his former wife

Saturday, 21 September 2019 | Staff Reporter | NEW DELHI

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Friday slammed the BJP over the incident in which Mehrauli district BJP president Azad Singh slapped his former wife and Mayor of South Delhi Sarita Chaudhary at party office.

Senior AAP leader and national spokesperson Atishi termed the BJP as "anti-women" party, "The safety of women in Delhi is a major issue and the responsibility to ensure the safety of women is with the Delhi Police which is under the Home Ministry of BJP-led Center. Now if BJP cannot ensure the safety of a woman inside the party office how can they ensure the safety of women of Delhi?" asked Atishi.

"Everyone knows that the BJP is an anti-women party because they have people like former minister Swami Chinmayanand who is in jail. BJP also has MLAs like Kuldeep Singh Sengar who is an accused of rape." she said.

Atishi further said "Chaudhury is an empowered woman and elected by the people of Delhi. She is also the Delhi BJP chief of the 'Beti Bachao Beti Padao' unit. When a woman like her is not safe in the BJP office then how the BJP-led Center will ensure the safety of women of Delhi? In Delhi, the BJP has only one responsibility which is maintaining the law and order where they have failed miserably.

Addressing the media senior AAP leader Rakhi Birla said, "In 2014 BJP raised the slogan of Beti Bachao Beti Padao but in reality, nothing happened. Only a slogan will not work but the BJP should ensure the safety of women in the ground too," she added.
