With the arrest of four persons, the Delhi police on Saturday claimed to have busted a Mewat based gang involved in ATM robberies.
The arrested accused have been identified as, Zabir (20), Mohd. Ashfaq (28) both from Nooh district of Mewat Haryana and Vakil(20), Shokeen (28) both from Palwal, Haryana.
According to Vijay Kumar, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), South district, tip off was received that ATM machine robbers were gathering in a fort situated in Satpula Park, Khirki Village on Press Enclave Road following which police team swung into action and apprehended the accused before they could commit crime.
“They were planning for dacoity at an ATM machine in Khirki extension Malviya Nagar. However during scuffle, fifth accused Arshad had managed to escape by jumping the wall of fort,” said the DCP.
“During interrogation it was revealed that Zabir and absconding Arshad were kingpin of the Mewat based gang. Zabir was earlier involved in a rape case while Ashfaq has done B-Tec, from Alfala University Faridabad in 2018, said Kumar.
“One country made pistol along with three live cartridges and gas cutter and other equipments used for breaking ATM Kiosk was recovered from the possession of the accused,” the DCP added.
