A 26-year-old auto-rickshaw driver was shot dead allegedly by some persons in northeast Delhi’s Seelampur area. Police suspects that the personal enmity would be the reason behind the incident.
The deceased has been identified as Noor Mohammad, a resident of New Seelampur.
“The incident occurred on Sunday at around 10.30 pm when Mohammad was sitting at DDA Market in New Seelampur area. In the meantime, some persons came there in car and opened fire at him,” said Atul Kumar Thakur, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), North-East district.
“He received six bullet injuries and was rushed to the GTB hospital where he succumbed to his injuries on Monday morning,” said the DCP.
According to a senior police official, on Friday, there was an engagement function of Mohammad’s cousin where he caught hold a person for stealing and allegedly thrashed him.
“It is suspected that in order to take revenge, the accused had attack Mohammad. Police have detained a person and interrogating him, they said, adding that more persons likely to be arrested soon,” said the senior police official.
Police are checking the CCTV footage of the nearby area to identify the accused persons, they said, adding that Mohammad is survived by a wife and three children.
