The Sickle Cell Institute Chhattisgarh, Raipur and Health and Family Welfare department will jointly organise an awareness programme on the occasion of World Sickle Cell Day on June 19 at 10.30 am at new Circuit House, Civil Lines Raipur.
Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel will be the chief guest at the event to be presided over by Health and Family Welfare Minister T. S. Singhdeo.
The Chief Minister will felicitate institutions and doctors working especially on sickle cell disease.
On the occasion, the Chief Minister will also release a booklet and posters, highlighting the different aspects of sickle cell disease. Besides, a ‘Healthy Child’ competition will be organised along with felicitation of senior citizens affected by sickle cell disease.
The World Sickle Cell Day is celebrated to raise the public awareness about the diseases and its treatment methods. Sickle cell disease (SCD) is an inherited genetic abnormality of hemoglobin (the oxygen-carrying protein found in red blood cells).
