The Balangir District Bar Association in support of various trade unions and social organisations would lock all Government offices for two days on September 18 and 19 to put pressure on the State and Union Governments for establishment of a permanent High Court Bench here at the earliest. Bar Association president Pramod Kumar Tripathy informed this after chairing a meeting here on Wednesday evening. Representative of different trade unions, including of banks, LIC and GIC, and other organisations attended the meeting. “A High Court was functioning here before the erstwhile Patna State merged with Odisha. During merger, we were assured to get all the all the services of a High Court here. Even today, the District Judge of Balangir is the Ex-officio Registrar of the Orissa High Court. One can file a case in the High Court here without going to Cuttack.
Though lawyers and people of the district have been demanding for a permanent HC Bench for the last 60 years, it yet to be met,” said Tripathy.
