Babariya to submit report on PCC chief appointment soon

Friday, 23 August 2019 | Staff Reporter | Bhopal

Madhya Pradesh unit of the Congress Committee might soon get a new president, as the process for selecting new PCC Chief is on.

After appointment of Sonia Gandhi as the interim president of Congress party, already delayed process has been put back on track while the BJP as part of nationwide organisational polls is due to see fresh organisational elections starting from September.

Earlier, former Guna MP Jyotiraditya Scindia was the front runner in the list of a dozen probable candidates for the coveted post. Later, in the present scenario, the list has now reduced to three to four names including that of former Guna MP Jyotiraditya Scindia.

AICC general secretary in charge of Madhya Pradesh Deepak Babariya has said that he would be submitting a report on the appointment of PCC head to Sonia Gandhi in a day or two after consulting over 200 leaders of the state.

However, equations have a lot after former national president Rahul Gandhi moved out only to be replaced by mother Sonia Gandhi, the choices for MPCC president have been altered drastically. Under Rahul Gandhi’s rein leaders like Bala Bachchan, Umang Singhar, Omkar Singh Markam, Pradyumn Singh Tomar, Govind Singh Rajput and former Leader of Opposition Ajay Singh were in the fray.

The name of Surendra Chaudhary, the former executive president of the MPCC was also in the hunt for the top post presently held by Chief Minister Kamal Nath which he assumed in May last year.

Name of former Guna MP Jyotiradiya Scindia who suffered a shocking loss in lok sabha polls was in contention earlier but was ruled out from the race later. However, sources in Congress party claimed that Scindia of late has emerged as the frontrunner.

Names like former MPCC chief Arun Yadav, Umang Singhar and Mukesh Nayak are also doing rounds, claimed sources in the party.
