Baghel reminds Shah of chit-fund scams under BJP govt in Chhattisgarh

Friday, 19 April 2019 | Staff Reporter | RAIPUR

Hitting out at BJP national president Amit Shah for his claim that action would be taken against those involved in chit fund scams within 90 days of coming back to power,  Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel said action would surely be taken but by the Congress and not the BJP.

Shah made the claim at an election rally in Odisha, referring to Saradha, Rose Valley and other chit fund scams that hit the state.

Baghel said the BJP would be disillusioned about forming the government at the Centre.

Commenting on Shah’s statement, Baghel in a tweet said “Since you are not coming to power, as per your wish actions will be taken against chit fund scam accused and by honouring your promise we will send them behind the bars”. “You must also caution the former chief minister Raman Singh and his associates as they too were involved into the graft and the entire scam was done in the state with their nexus,” he added.

Congress’s state general secretary and chairman communication wing Shailesh Nitin Trivedi sought to know from Shah his stand on chit fund scam in Chhattisgarh. The chit fund companies duped the innocent people of the state under the patronage of the erstwhile Raman Singh-led BJP government, he said.

Before leveling allegation on leaders of Biju Janata Dal, Shah must have clarified his stand on Chhattisgarh where proofs of BJP leaders’ involvement in the scam surfaced time to time, he said.

BJP leaders, including the former CM, participated in the programmes of these chit fund companies which misled the people of the state to believe those companies were genuine, Trivedi said.

In past 15 years more than161 chit fund companies duped over one crore people from 21 lakh families of Rs 5000 crore in the state. 57 persons lost their lives and even though more than 300 FIRs were filed not a single arrest was made into the matter, he added.
