Baleswar district to have 80 pink booths

With the Election Commission encouraging women to participate in the elections process, as many as 80 pink booths in Baleswar district would be managed by women officials.

And for these pink booths or Sakhi booths, women officials from the educational institutions, teachers from the schools and colleges and banks have been pooled and trained how to conduct the election process smoothly.

Sources said for 1,887 booths from eight Assembly segments across the district, there is a requirement of about over 14,000 officials and for the first time, about 3,000 women officials would be deployed in poll duty. The 80 pink booths have been identified which would be solely managed by the women officials.

District Election Officer Manoj Senapati said, "This time there would be 80 pink booths across the district. While all 12 blocks would have five pink booths each, each municipality and urban local bodies (4) will have five booths each. They are given training to conduct the polling process as per guidelines. The objective is to empower women voters."

Each booth while would have one presiding officer and 5 poling officers, all the six would be women officials in the pink booths.

In the town area while five booths within 5 km radius of the town have been identified as pink ones, they would be managed by the women officials.

Senapati said the women officials would transported to the polling station and all the provisions have been made for their stay and food in the station and further for their security, women police officers would be deployed.

Besides pink booths, women officials too would be deployed in the other booths where there are requirements.

No single woman would be deployed in any polling station in duty and on the other hand, at least two women would be deployed which would be also managed by male officials.
