BAU celebrates its 39th Foundation Day

Birsa Agricultural University (BAU) celebrated its 39th Foundation Day with full of joy, on Wednesday.

Speaking as Chief Guest on the occasion, Jharkhand Agriculture Minister, Randhir Singh, said that with the cooperation of the State and Central Government, the University has been path founder in the field of agriculture education, research and dissemination and its contribution has changed greatly in the State’s agricultural landscape.

“According to the report of Niti Ayog, the agricultural growth rate in the State has reached from 4 to 14 per cent. In the case of Soil Health Card Distribution and Prime Minister Irrigation Scheme, Jharkhand got first place in 27 states,” said Singh.

Considering the loss in health due to the crops produced by the use of chemical fertilizers, the Minister talked about working ahead and establishing the State as a biological State by 2028.

Addressing the gathering on the occasion, BAU Vice Chancellor, Parvinder Kaushal, said that altogether 501 students received their Under Graduate (UG), Post Graduate (PG) and Ph.D. degrees in Agriculture, Veterinary and Animal Husbandry and Forestry Sciences on 6th Convocation of the University, out of which 20 were given University Gold Medals (UGMs) for obtaining highest OGPA in their respective faculties.

“A total of 443 and 114 students were admitted during the year 20118-19 under UG and PG programme of faculty of Agriculture, Forestry, Animal Husbandry and Forestry Science. Teaching, research and extension activities have initiated in new colleges including College of Agricultural Engineering, Ranchi, College of Horticulture, West Singhbhoom. Experiential Learning Programme (ELP) and Rural Appraisal Work Experience (RAWE) programmes have been redesign with inclusion of more farmers’ oriented activities,” he added.

Talking on vocational courses running by the University, the VC said that under Skill Development programme of National Skill Qualification Framework (NSFQ) of University Grant Commission, BAU started 16 Certificates, Diploma, Advanced Diploma and B Vocational. “Courses of total intake capacity of 800 students for the residents of the State started during the session. BAU has launched 16 UGC approved Certificate, Diploma and Vocational courses in different subjects of Agriculture, Veterinary Science, Forestry and Biotechnology from the session 2018-19,” he added.

“Three year Bachelor of Vocational programme on Human Nutrition and Dietetics’ has been launched in Faculty of Agriculture where as Faulty of Forestry has started with same duration in the session.

The Agriculture Skill Council of India, New Delhi has approved this University as a centre for one month skill development training for job of Green House Operator and Micro Irrigation technician,” said Koushal.

Students of the university participate in various other activities as BAU organised 1st Chancellor Trophy Table Tennis Tournament from February 8-9 in this year.

A total of 42 students participated in ICAR AGRIUNISPORT at Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana from January 2 to 5 and also 24 students participated in AGRIUNIFEST-2019 at SKDAU, Banskantha, Gujarat from February 3 to February 7.
