Beef sale triggers row in Mayurbhanj

Friday, 12 July 2019 | PNS | BARIPADA

Two persons were arrested for selling beef in the guise of venison (deer meat) at the Shyamasunderpur weekly haat in Bangirisposi town of Mayurbhanj district on Thursday.

They were identified as Lalmohan Soren and Mahajan Soren of Balikhani village in the district.

Lalmohan, Mahajan and two others were selling what they claimed venison in the market. But the look of the meat aroused suspicion among local people, who began interrogating the sellers. The sellers ultimately confessed that the meat really was beef.

The irate locals caught hold of Mahajan and Lalmohan and tied them up while the other two sellers fled from the spot.

Getting information, the Bangiriposi police reached the market and rescued the accused from the locals. “Both the beef sellers have been arrested. According to the allegations of the locals, a case has been registered against them,” said Bangiriposi IIC Chandan Kumar Ghadei.
