Two days after 51-year-old Dhruv Raj Tyagi, who was brutally stabbed to death by his neighbours after he objected to their lewd comments on his daughter, Tyagis have decided to shift to another locality following the “apathetic” behaviour of the locals, some of whom even made videos of the incident but didn’t even come to help. The family also alleged that the wife and daughter of an accused were also involved in the brutal act.
Tyagi was allegedly stabbed to death in West Delhi’s Moti Nagar area on April 12. The man’s 19-year-old son was also injured in the incident and he is battling for life in hospital. According to a senior police official, the boys passed some lewd comments and made indecent gestures at the businessman’s 24-year-old daughter, when they were returning home on a two-wheeler from a hospital.
The wife and the daughter Jahangir of neighbour were also involved in the act. “They have been detained and are being questioned,” said police official privy to investigation.
“If their involvement is found, they will be arrested,” he added. Two men — Mohammad Alam a 20-year-old and his father Jahangir —have been arrested. Two other sons of Jahangir, who are juveniles, were also apprehended.
“The wife and daughter of the Jahangir, who has been arrested along with his son Mohammad Alam, were also involved in the quarrel, and one of them had handed the knife to the accused, with which they stabbed my uncle,” the relative said. A nephew of the deceased, requesting anonymity, said we have been living in Basai Darapur for more than 100 years but the way neighbours reacted and even didn’t dare to save my uncle.
“This is our home. Memories of our forefather are here who had settled in this locality 400 years ago while the house where we are staying in was bought 100 years ago. After what neighbours did, I do not wish to live here anymore,” he said. The nephew said he is scared for the safety of his aunt and sister, who are in trauma after the incident and will shift them to another place.
Congress’ candidate from West Delhi Mahabal Mishra met the family members of the victim and said, “It’s a very unfortunate incident and the police should arrest the remaining accused persons.”
