A bike-borne man threw acid on a school teacher near Booty More in Ranchi over an alleged rift in their friendship.
The woman sustained minor burn injuries and was rushed to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) by a local auto driver.
The survivor teaches in Kolkata Public School. She was returning home by an auto-rickshaw after participating in a school function when the accused, identified as one Shravan Kumar, perpetrated the offense.
As she reached near Seventh Day Adventist School near Booty More, Kumar approached her on a bike and threw acid on her.
She started feeling burning sensations on her hand and leg and was taken to a local medicine shop the auto-rickshaw driver. She was later referred to the RIMS for better treatment.
City Superintendent of Police Sujata Veenapani reached RIMS and carried out preliminary investigation in connection with the case.
“The victim and the accused were old friends. Their relation had however turned sour in the recent past. The accused had also started harassing the victim,” said Veenapani.
The survivor said, “The man was harassing me for the past many days. I had lodged an FIR against him with the women police station.”
Police said they are yet to ascertain the motive behind the crime.
