The city police on Sunday busted a gang of bike lifters and arrested five persons. The Banshidhar Nagar Police also recovered five bikes from the possession of the accused.
The accused have been identified as Ainul Ansari, Shankar Chaudhary, Santosh Prajapati, Jitendra Bhuyanya and Dipak Vishwakarma.
Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Banshidhar Nagar, Niraj Kumar informed that on Sunday a vehicle check was organised by the police at Dhurki-Banshidhar Nagar road when a person on a motorcycle coming from Banshidhar Nagar tried fleeing on seeing policemen on the road.
“This led to suspicion and the officers chased the bike, thus nabbing one Ainul Ansari. On verification, the motorcycle was found stolen to be,” said the SDPO.
“During interrogation, the accused revealed the names of all the gang members and shared information about the stolen motorcycles,” he added.
Informing about the modus operandi of the bike lifter gang SDPO said that the accused persons used to bring these stolen bikes from Bihar to Dipak Vishwakarma, a native of Sasaram, Bihar, who lives in Garhwa and is the prime member of the gang. Dipak was sent the stolen motorcycles from Bihar to sell locally in Garhwa.
When police raided Dipak’s house with the help of Bihar police they recovered six motorcycles and a car. “Bihar police is verifying the vehicles," SDPO said.
"The arrested persons already have criminal history. Cases of theft, robbery and Arms Act are registered against Ainul while Shakar has been jailed in the past due for involvement in extremism violence," SDPO informed.
