Bishnu fights polls from hosp bed, wins decisively

Sunday, 26 May 2019 | PNS | BHUBANESWAR

Former Minister, MP, State Planning Board Deputy Chairman and noted Dalit leader Bishnu Charan Das has come out victorious in the Assembly polls. This is the sixth time when Das came out triumphant with an exemplary victory.

In this connection, this may be stated here that barring the solitary exception of joining once and for all in a marathon meeting with Chief Minister, Naveen Patnaik at Tirtol, he fought the entire election in absentia being confined to a hospital bed at Bhubaneswar.

Das’ victory shows his stronghold not only in Tirtol but also throughout the four Assembly segments of the entire Jagatsinghpur district.

The evidence of Das’ popularity is evident again from the results of Biridi block which gave a lead of 12,826 votes and Raghunathpur block giving a lead of 7,101 and Tirtol block that paved the way for a splendid finale giving a lead of 20,099 votes.

Thus, he humbled his nearest BJP rival by a gargantuan margin of 40,386.

An air of enthusiasm is noticeable among the rank and file of BJD workers of the entire district and the air is again agog with speculations that Das as a loyalist to the Biju legacy will be inducted into the Naveen Patnaik Cabinet.

BJD Tirtol president Basanta Mohapatra and Biridi Block vice-president Rabinarayan Jena said, “As a veteran Dalit leader, a seasoned political leader and a loyalist to the Biju legacy, it would be no wonder that Bishnubabu will get a berth in the Cabinet for the development of Jagatsinghpur district.”

Speaking to The Pioneer, Bishnu Das said, “I have had long been working in the entire Jagatsinghpur district. Besides, the Naveen brand and the Biju legacy played a pivotal role for my victory. My words slip, slide, perish and decay with imprecision to record my deep debt of gratitude to our popular Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for my victory.”
