BJD to do ‘extremely well’ in polls: Naveen

Wednesday, 23 January 2019 | PNS | BHUBANESWAR

With all the major political parties in the State raring to go for the kill in the forthcoming elections, Chief Minister and Biju Janata Dal (BJD) supremo Naveen Patnaik has once again exuded confidence that his party would do “extremely well” in the polls.

“I am sure that the Biju Janata Dal will do extremely well in the forthcoming elections,” Patnaik told reporters at the State Secretariat here on Tuesday.

In fact, the regional party, despite an assumed anti-incumbency factor because of its unprecedented rule in the State for 19 long years at a stretch, will be contesting the elections without alliance with any other party. The BJD seems upbeat given the results of the last by-elections and local body elections.

BJD cadres are particularly enthusiastic about the party coming to power for a straight fifth time as they claim that Naveen Patnaik has earned more popularity by now because of launching several welfare schemes like KALIA for farmers, PEETHA for a cross section of people and the Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana covering all citizens on a slogan of “Healthy Odisha, Happy Odisha”. The Chief Minister has announced that many other pro-people schemes are in the offing, the BJD rank and file points out.

They assert that people are far impressed about the State Government’s welfare schemes than the ones launched by the Central regime led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Notably, the term of the present State Assembly will end on June 11. In Odisha along with some other States, Lok Sabha and Assembly elections will take place simultaneously. The schedule for these polls is expected to be announced by the Election Commission of India in the first week of March.
