BJP’s Rao Inderjit Singh beats Cong’s Ajay Yadav in Gurugram

Sitting Member of Parliament and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate from the Gurugram Lok Sabha constituency, Rao Inderjit Singh has won the seat by a huge margin of 3,86,256 votes.

Singh got 8,81,546 votes and his rival Captain (Retd), Ajay Singh Yadav of Congress got 4,95,290 votes. Singh maintained a lead in all the rounds and defeated his nearest rival by a huge margin.

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) candidate Chaudhary Rais Ahmad got 26,756 votes coming third followed by Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) candidate Virender Rana with 9,911 and Jannayak Janta Party’s (JJP) Dr Mehmood Khan with 8,993.

The parliamentary constituency of Gurugram comprises of 9 assembly constituencies. Gurugram is one among the 10 Lok Sabha seats in the state. The total number of candidates who contested from Gurugram is 24.

During Lok Sabha elections 2019 polling in Gurugram constituency recorded 67.38% voting which was down from the 71.58% observed in 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

“I was very much hopeful of winning but the credit goes to Narendra Modi. Though people in Gurugram were fed up with Congress politics. I will visit the entire south Haryana to.thank for.such a resounding victory,” Singh said.

Son of former Haryana Chief Minister late Rao Birendra Singh, Inderjit said, “We fought the elections on issues of development and infrastructure growth in Gurugram and south Haryana and this victory is a witness of our development works which were supported by the voters”.

The 67-year-old leader said he will continue on development work. “ We will focus on undergoing project works in the region and ensure that such projects will be completed on time,” Rao said.

Lok Sabha elections in 2019, Gurugram constituency has 21. 50 lakh registered electors-11,35,004 of the male and 10,04, 749 female and 5,148 physically challenged.

In 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Inderjit Singh of BJP won in this seat by defeating the INLD candidate by a margin of 2,74,722 votes which was 20.80% of the total votes polled in the constituency. BJP had a vote share of 48.82% in 2014 in the seat. There were a total of 22 contestants in 2014.
