BJP’s Tolia strong contender for District Panchayat president’s post

Friday, 25 October 2019 | PNS | Nainital

BJP candidate, Bela Tolia, won the election to the post of District Panchayat member from Paniyali unopposed and was declared the party’s candidate for the post of Nainital district Panchayat president. Considering the strong position of the BJP, the Congress has also started efforts to boost its chances.

In the Nainital district elections, independent candidates have secured more wins than candidates supported by the BJP or Congress. Consequently, the BJP is trying to gain the support of victorious independent candidates.

Following Bela Tolia’s unopposed election to the post of district Panchayat member, the party declared her its candidate for the post of district Panchayat president. In the past, she has also been a member of the block development committee from Paniyali. Her husband Pramod Toliya has been associated with the BJP for a long time.

The party has placed its trust on Tolia but observers point out that her way to the post of district Panchayat president may have some challenges.

Geeta Bisht, who was elected from Mehargaon to the post of district Panchayat member may pose a challenge. Along with her husband Harish Bisht, she had left the Congress to join the BJP in the recent past.

Harish Bisht is a contender for the post of Bhimtal block Pramukh so it is being surmised that his wife may contest for the post of Nainital district Panchayat president.

Meanwhile, the BJP is making efforts to ensure the election of its candidate to this post.
