BJP accuses Saryu Roy of double standard

Monday, 16 December 2019 | PNS | Ranchi

State Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday said that Minister Saryu Roy is using double standard in politics which is not rational.

BJP State Spokesperson Pratul Shahdeo said that former Minister Saryu Roy had first alleged that the EVM hackers were staying at a hotel which was communicated to him by a friend from Bangalore. “Roy had complained about this to the Chief Electoral Officer of Jharkhand, so obviously Saryu Roy had faith in the working culture of the Election Commission. But when the Chief Electoral Officer rejected the entire charges after investigation then Saryu Roy lost faith on the Election Commission. And he began questioning the fairness of the Election Commission,” he added.

Shahdeo said that senior politicians like Saryu Roy should not change their goalposts as per their convenience. “If he did not trust the office of the Chief Electoral Officer then why did he complain? And when the result did not come in his favor, then he started raising questions on the Election Commission. Such double standards are not appropriate in politics,” he added.

The party Spokesperson said that the Executive President of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), Hemant Soren and his family have been accused of buying more than two and a half dozen land by violating CNT and SPT Act. “In this case, he has also received notice from the appropriate forum. Saryu Roy has known Jharkhand very closely,” he added.

Mocking Saryu Roy, Shahdeo said that the JMM had sold the Jharkhand movement to then late Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao for Rs 3 crore. “Saryu Roy always talks of high moral ideals in politics. He is going to Santhal to campaign in favor of Soren just to give a return gift as Soren helped in election of Jamshedpur East. In any case this whole matter does not seem to be a matter of high moral ideals and principles which they talk about following,” he added.
