BJP candidates file papers

Eleven candidates of Bharatiya Janata Party and its ally Apna Dal (Sonelal) filed their nomination papers for the UP Assembly bypolls  to be held on October 21.
The BJP candidates were accompanied by senior leaders when they filed their nomination papers in their respective districts.
“All BJP candidates filed their nomination papers with fanfare. Senior ministers and party leaders took part in the process,” BJP media-incharge Manish Dixit said in Lucknow on Monday.
In Lucknow, former legislator Suresh Tiwari filed his papers for Lucknow Cantonment seat. BJP state chief Swatantra Dev Singh and Deputy Chief Minister Dinesh Sharma accompanied Tiwari for filing his papers at the Lucknow Collectorate.
In Rampur, BJP candidate Bharat Bhushan Gupta filed his papers. He is pitted against Samajwadi Party MP Mohammad Azam Khan’s wife Tazeen Fatma. The latter is presently a Rajya Sabha member and her term will expire next year. Labour Minister Swami Prasad Maurya accompanied Gupta for filing the nomination papers. 
The other BJP candidates who filed their nomination oaoers on Monday were Kirat Singh foe Gangoh seat, Surendra Maithani from Govind Nagar (Kanpur), Rajkumar Sahyogi from Iglas, Anand Shukla from Manikpur (Chitrakoot), Ambrish Rawat from Zaidpur (Barabanki), Rajesh Singh from Jalalpur (Ambedkar Nagar), Saroj Sonkar from Balha (Bahraich) and Vijay Rajbhar from Ghosi.
The BJP has left the Pratapgarh seat for its ally Apna Dal (Sonelal) led by Mirzapur MP Anupriya Patel. It has fielded  Raj Kumar Pal from the seat. Pal also filed his nomination papers on Monday.
While 10 Assembly seats were vacated as their members were elected to Lok Sabha, the MLA representing Ghosi seat, Phagu Chauhan, vacated his Assembly seat after he was appointed Governor of Bihar.
Of these, Rampur seat was held by Samajwadi Party while Jalalpur seat was won by Bahujan Samaj Party in the 2017 Assembly elections while the remaining seats belonged to the BJP. As many as 155 candidates have filed their nominations for 11 UP Assembly seats, bypolls to which will be held on October 21.
On the last day of filing nominations on Monday, 121 candidates filed their papers, including 11 of the Bharatiya Janata Party and its ally Apna Dal (Sonelal).
The highest number of 20 candidates have filed their nominations for the Govindnagar in Kanpur Nagar and Jalalpur seats, 18 for Pratapgarh, 15 each for Gangoh, Lucknow Cantonment and Ghosi, 12 for Balha and 10 each for Rampur, Iglas, Manikpur and Zaidpur seats.
Scrutiny of nomination papers will be done on Tuesday, while October 3 is the last date for withdrawing papers.
The bypolls will be held on October 21 and counting of votes will take place on October 24.
