BJP state president Vikram Usendi led a delegation of his party to Chhattisgarh State Election Commissioner on Wednesday and handed over a memorandum demanding delimitation of wards, holding election through EVM instead of ballot papers among others.
The delegation comprises BJP’s urban body election in-charge Amar Agrawal, Leader of Opposition Dharamlal Kaushik, former minister Brijmohan Agrawal and Raipur MP Sunil Soni.
Talking to media, Usendi said four key points have been raised. The first is to extend the date for making claims and objections in electoral roll from September 16 and also hold physical verification of electoral roll.
He said there are talks that election would be held through ballot papers, but when upgraded versions of EVMs are available, then why not EVM.
The third issue is the delimitation of wards based on population and geographical status as per Municipal Act’s section 10, but the same is found to be violated. The demand was raised to fully implement the rule.
BJP state president hoped that State Election Commission will consider their demands sympathetically otherwise, he said, the party will be forced to seek legal intervention.
State Election Commissioner Thakur Ram Singh said the BJP delegation has raised the demands pertaining to election process including extending dates, delimitation and others. All the points will be looked into.
