BJP gears up to counter Priyanka, BSP-SP alliance

Saturday, 26 January 2019 | PNS | Lucknow

Gearing up to counter the Bahujan Samaj Party-Samajwadi Party alliance and re-emergence of Congress after appointment of Priyanka Vadra Gandhi as national general secretary incharge of east Uttar Pradesh, the Bharatiya Janata Party has chalked out a strategy that centers around booth level management and placating angry workers.

A senior BJP leader told ‘The Pioneer’ that party’s national president Amit Shah would hold meetings with booth in-charges on regular basis and give them pep talk about importance of party’s victory this time around.

The beginning will be made from January 30 when Shah will have a meeting with BJP workers in Lucknow.

“In view of the BSP-SP alliance and Priyanka factor in UP, the BJP has taken up the challenge to strengthen party at booth level. The booth-level leaders will be given the task to meet voters regularly,” the leader said.

As per the guidelines, the booth incharges will meet the heads of families in his areas at least five times till election and twice with voters. They will tell them about the good work being done by the Narendra Modi and Yogi Adityanath governments.

Another task of these booth-level leaders will be to identify angry party workers and placate them.

“Every ruling party faces the problem of angry workers. The booth-level leaders have been asked to prepare a list of such workers and talk to them. The list will also be sent to Amit Shah’s office’, he said.

On Priyanka’s entry into active politics, the BJP leader said it would help his party.

“Now it is clear that there will be a triangular fight in UP and this will help BJP. Our target is to get over 50 per cent votes in UP. If we achieve this target we will win over 74 seats in UP in the Lok Sabha elections,” he said.

In the 2014 parliamentary elections, the BJP had won 71 seats on its own, which was 88 per cent of the seats, in UP. Its vote share was 43 per cent while the combined vote share of SP, BSP and Congress was over 50 per cent.
