BJP workers celebrated the victory of Vivek Shewalkar who defeated the Congress candidate Ashok Singh by a margin of over one lakh votes in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections.
The party workers burst crackers, distributed sweets and danced to the beating of drums in front of Shewalkar’s house. The BJP workers in different parts of the city and the rural areas also celebrated the victory of Shewalkar and the party as a whole in the country. The party workers also took Shewalkar out in an open carriage throughout the city in the evening. The MP elect, in return thanked the workers for their hard work, perseverance and determination. The MP added that the people voted for the BJP as they had witnessed the developmental works done by the Modi Government. Later on speaking to the media persons, Shewalkar said that one of his priorities is to solve the water crisis in the district. He added that plans will soon be afoot to bring water from the Chambal River to the city. Shewalkar also said that his tenure as the Mayor of Gwalior had given him an opportunity to understand the problems of the city and added that he will do everything in his power to solve those problems.
Meanwhile, the District Collector and District Returning Officer, Anurag Chaudhary thanked the officers and other staff connected with the election duties for conducting the counting in a peaceful manner. He also thanked the general public for their cooperation. Gwalior SP Navneet Bhasin also expressed his thanks and appreciation for the efforts of the police personnel in maintaining law and order in the district.
