The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would extend moral support to the Odisha Bandh call given by the Navnirman Krushak Sangathan (NKS) on February 21.
This was announced by BJP State president Basant Panda on Monday. In a reference to the police foiling the NKS’ recent move to hold a rally in the State capital, Panda said that in a democracy, everyone has a fundamental right to present his or her views and protest in a democratic manner.
The farmers’ body has called for a 12-hour State-wide bandh to protest against the alleged gross apathy of the State Government towards the farming community.
Making an announcement about the bandh call, NKS national convener Akshay Kumar said the State Government has deprived the farmers of their right to speech and freedom.
“We have requested political parties, think-tanks, traders’ associations and bus and truck owners’ associations to support our cause and make the bandh successful,” Kumar added.
