The headmistress of the Mathasahi Mahabir Nodal school here was suspended on Thursday following an incident of a Class-I student being found locked on the school premises on Wednesday.
The suspension of headmistress Shanti Pratima Mohapatra came after the School and Mass Education Department directed the District Education officer (DEO) to conduct a detailed inquiry into the incident.
Reports said the student had gone to the toilet when the teachers and the peon allegedly locked the school gate and left.
The minor boy was rescued after locals spotted him crying near the gate of the school.
A video of the entire incident went viral on social media.
But ironically, the school authorities claimed that they usually lock the students in the school when their guardians come late to pick their wards.
