Bus overturns trying to save motorcyclists

A private bus en route to Bhubaneswar overturned near Biragobindapur under the Sakhigopal police station in Puri district on Tuesday.

Eight passengers, who were injured in the mishap, were hospitalised. The mishap occurred at around 8.45 am when the ‘Sri Durga’ bus was on its way to Bhubaneswar from Puri with about 30 passengers. The driver lost control over the vehicle while trying to save two motorcyclists travelling in the same direction. The bus hit the bike and turned turtle, injuring its eight passengers, including the two motorcyclists. Locals rushed to the spot and rescued the injured persons.

Receiving information, Fire Services and police personnel reached the spot and started their rescue operations. The injured were admitted to the Government hospital at Sakhigopal. Later, the critically injured persons were shifted to the Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar.
